PURPOSE:To reduce measuring error and to permit a continuous measurement as well as eliminate the need for any troublesome operation, by a method wherein while slack of a chain stetched between first and second sprockets is prevented by urging the first sprocket, the second sprocket is driven to continuously detect the variation of the distance between the first and second sprockets resulting from the elongation of the chain. CONSTITUTION:A chain 13 is stretched between sprockets 11, 12 and made to circularly travel by means of a motor. The chain 13 is elongated due to the wear between pins and bushings as a principal factor. The elongation of the chain 13 is detected as a displacement amount of the first sprocket 11, and the rate of elongation with respect to the circularly traveling time of the chain is continuously recorded by a recorder 23. In this case, arrangement is such that a constant load is applied to the first sprocket 11 by a hydraulic cylinder 21 at all times regardless of the displacement amount of the first sprocket 11; therefore, there is no possibility of slacking of the chain 13 during the test. |
