PURPOSE:To prevent the increase of the densities of an unburned component and black smoke contained in the exhaust gas from the diesel engine by a method wherein an oxygen detector for detecting oxygen in the exhaust gas and an exhaust gas recirculation stop means for closing an exhaust gas recirculation control valve are provided. CONSTITUTION:A particle collector 12 for collecting particles included in the exhaust gas is provided in an exhaust gas passage 11 of the diesel engine. The exhaust gas recirculation control valve 14 is connected to an exhaust gas intake port 17 and an exhaust gas injecting port 20. When the oxygen detector 35 is in the process of detecting oxygen in the exhaust gas, the negative pressure adjusted by a negative pressure control valve 29 is introduced into a diaphragm chamber 26 so that the exhaust gas begins to recirculate. In this case, when the pressure of the exhaust gas rises up due to the clogging of the particle collector 12, the exhaust gas recirculation control valve 14 is closed by the oxygen detector 35 and a negative pressure changeover valve 31 so that the increase of the densities of the unburned component and the black smoke in the exhaust gas is prevented. |
