The measurement voltage is supplied to the converter (5) via a smoothing section (4). The transfer characteristic of the smoothing section is compensated for by appropriate design of the subsequent circuit sections. This compensation can be achieved by means of a differentiating circuit arrangement or - if the arithmetic circuit contains an integrator (12) for the converter output quantity u' at the input (7) - by connecting a circuit to the integrator. This makes it possible largely to suppress the measurement errors of the converter if the measurement voltage decreases with decreasing frequency as is the case, for example in rotating-field machines driven in a field-oriented manner. <IMAGE>
