PURPOSE:To enable interior circulating torque in turning to be absorbed by varying transmission torque in three steps during four wheel drive in a transfer clutch for changing over two or four wheel drive. CONSTITUTION:In a hydraulic clutch system transfer clutch 22, a transfer driven gear 21 and clutch plates 27, 29 on a rear drive shaft 23 are press engaged with each other by a pressure plate 30. Also, small and large diameter postons 33, 35 provided at both sides of a diaphragm spring 31 on the plate 30 are incorporated to reduce or increase the engagement of plates 27, 29 by oil pressure in piston chambers 34, 36. When oil is not supplied to the chambers 34, 36, the plates 27, 29 are placed under the semi-clutched condition, and when oil is supplied to the chamber 34 the clutch 22 is disengaged to permit two wheel drive. When oil is supplied to the chamber 35 the plates 27, 29 are integrated to permit four wheel drive and, in quick turning, the plates 27, 29 are brought into easily slidable engagement with each other only by the spring 31. |
