PURPOSE:To obtain a membrane having high permeability and good sepn. performance by coating the polyphenylene ether expressed by the specific general formulaIor II on a porous membrane. CONSTITUTION:The composite membrane produced by dissolving the polyphenylene ether of about 900-100,000 number average mol.wts. expressed by the general formula (I) or (II) in an org. solvent such as benzene or toluene and coating the solvent on a porous membrane, and the homogeneous membrane or anisotropic membrane produced by casting said soln. are used as a membrane for sepn. of gases. There are no particular limits for the material of the porous membrane, and hollow yarn-, pipe-, and flat plate-like shapes are usable. The rate of permeation[CC(STP)/cm<2>.sec.cmHg]of the separating membrane produced by coating poly-2-methyl-6-pulenylphenol on a porous membrane in an embodiment is N2(4.4X10<-5>), O2(2.1X10<-6>). |
