Shut-off slide valves are known, whose closing elements have wedge plates provided with sealing seats which are aligned to one another in the form of wedges. The wedge plates are supported on a central sphere and are coupled to one another by means of a bayonet closure located on the circumferential side of the sphere. Above the bayonet closure, the wedge plates have projections and undercuts which are used for attachment of the end section of the slide valve spindle, which end section is constructed like a hammer head. The disadvantageous feature with this type of construction is the high manufacturing cost, which results from the precise mechanical machining required to produce the bayonet closure and the welding work which is necessary as a result of the fitment of the bayonet closure to the rear surfaces of the wedge plates. A further disadvantage is the absence of a capability to readjust the wedge plates when the sealing seats are subject to wear. In contrast, a closing element is proposed according to the invention, whose wedge plates (6, 7) are hooked to one another by means of straight claw strips (26 to 29) which are arranged above and below the central supporting body (17). The supporting body (17) has a spherical end face (19) to compensate for angle inaccuracies and a flat end face (18) between which and the mating face (14) on the associated wedge plate (6) compensating discs can be inserted if reworking of the sealing seats (10) is necessary. The holder (3) for the hammer head end (2) of the slide valve spindle (1) is formed by strip-like projections (4) and groove-like undercuts (5) on the wedge plates (6, 7). <IMAGE>
