PURPOSE:To improve gas detecting sensitivity, by forming a given electric field between an electric heater for heating a catalyst layer and the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 2 and 2' are positioned facing and opposite to each other on both inner and an outer surface of an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolytic hollow cylinder 1, the inside electrode 2' are entirely covered with a catalyst layer 5 consisting of catalyst powder and an adhesive agent, and an electric heater 6, for example, nichrome wire coil, is situated in a space surrounded by the catalyst layer 5 and in an axial center position. A given electric field is produced between the catalyst layer 5 and the electric heater 6 by a bias voltage source 9 resulting from the suction of positive and negative ion of gas to be detected reacted or analyzed through heating of the electric heater 6. In case the catalyst layer 5 is heated to an appropriate temperature by the electric heater 6, gas to be inspected is led through a gas inlet A, and an electromotive force generated corresponding to a difference in oxygen partial pressure between the inside and outside of the cylinder 1 is measured by the electrodes 2 and 2'. |
