Apparatus and method of transporting and erecting a self-advancing support shield

The invention relates to an apparatus for transporting and erecting a self-advancing support shield with pushing cylinders in an underground mining operation. The apparatus first of all includes a tractor with a telescopic arm which projects at the rear side, is pivotable in a motor-operated manner about a vertical axis of the tractor and has at its end a supporting head which can be lifted and lowered in a motor-operated manner and can be pivoted in a motor-operated manner about a vertical axis of the telescopic arm. Furthermore, the apparatus includes an auxiliary truck with a horizontal rotary disc which is coupled to the tractor. A self-advancing support shield to be erected can be put onto the rotary disc on the one hand and connected to the supporting head on the other hand. The arrangement is made in such a way that the self-advancing support shield can be rotated by swivelling and extending the telescopic arm and swivelling the supporting head on the rotary disc and can be moved with a section on the supporting-head side into an erecting area of the underground operation. Furthermore, the self-advancing support shield can be pushed away from the rotary disc with its own pushing cylinder attached to the tractor and actuated by the tractor. To this end, the rotary disc has a corresponding supporting abutment. With regard to the method, the procedure is for the self-advancing support shield, after the swivelling of the telescopic arm with rotation of the supporting head and turning of the self-advancing support shield on the rotary disc, to be freed from the supporting head and set down on the floor. The self-advancing support shield is subsequently pulled by the tractor, if need be supported in a sliding manner on a self-advancing support shield already erected, roughly orthogonally to the transport axis of the apparatus.
