To inspect screw-cap bottle closure one or more television cameras 23 derive optical image signals corresponding to the external profile of the cap at different e.g. opposite circumferential positions, and a comparison system 24, 25 analyses the video signal information to determine whether the cap has a groove or other portion with required shape characteristics. Photocells 26 and 27 detect when a bottle is in each of two positions, between which the bottle is rotated by over 90 DEG , causing microprocessor 25 to store two images of the cap each containing two side profiles which are analysed e.g. for width to depth ratio of grooves. <IMAGE> |
