PURPOSE:To obtain a good recorded image high in contrast, by forming patternwise charge distribution of toner without injection of charge and use of electrostatic induction. CONSTITUTION:A uniform thin layer of an insulating toner T containing 10- 60wt% iron powder is formed on a donor 1, and an electric field is applied to this thin layer with multistylus electrodes 4 having insulated eletrode faces in accordance with pattern signals to charge the toner subjected to action of the electric field to the opposite polarity, and to form a toner charge distribution corresponding to the pattern signals, serviceable for forming a visible pattern. It is made evident by the toner charged oposite in polarity to the pattern signals applied to the multistylus electrodes and the insulated electrode faces of the multistylus electrodes that the mechanism of toner charging is not due to injection of charge. It is different from charging due to electrostatic induction from the point of high resistance of the toner used. |
