A length meter for paper fibres (2) consisting of a capillary tube (1), running through which are guided the fibres to be measured, which are embedded in a liquid, and in which a light source (3) is located on one side of the capillary tube and there is provided on the opposite side thereof a photocell from the results of which the fibre lengths can be determined. The photocell (4) consists of a diode matrix, having diodes (5, 11) which calculate the length of the fibre from the passing image of the fibre (2). <IMAGE>
