Hanging devices for hanging up a letter file in a hanging cabinet by means of hanging members which are arranged on the rear cover and are displaceable in the longitudinal direction of the file back have the disadvantage that the hanging members located in the rest position are an obstruction when turning the document over onto the opened-out front cover, especially if the document has not been punched precisely. This disadvantage is avoided in that the part (41) of the hanging member, which is bent perpendicularly away from the outer front end of the longitudinally displaceable sliding parts (4) and has a length of at least a third of the width of the file back, has a greater spacing from the boundary of the back cover (1) on the file-back side than the inner edges of the document (B) turned over onto the front cover. <IMAGE>
