A centrifugal separator 2 has an outer pipe 6 and an inner pipe 4 concentrically arranged therein, while a ring-shaped gas inlet channel 8 is formed between the outer and inner pipe and slots 26 are formed in the inner pipe 4 in order to produce communication between the ring- shaped channel 8 and the space inside the inner pipe 4. A collecting chamber 14 for collection of particulate material and for a flow of flushing gases is arranged at the bottom of the ring-shaped channel 8. Transverse discharge elements 24 communicate with the collecting chamber 14 to remove the material from it. The separator 2 has at least one vortex blade 15 which provides vortex motion to the gas flowing in the ring-shaped channel 8. Separation of particulate material from the swirling gas by virtue of centrifugal force takes place when the gas at the beginning flows into the ring-shaped channel 8 and when the gas is swirled around in said channel. Further separation of particles takes place when the swirling gas in the channel experiences a sudden change in flow direction when it enters the slots 26 of the inner pipe 4. The outlet element for pure gas is arranged at the bottom of the inner pipe 4 so that the clean gas leaves the separator at the bottom. Several such centrifugal separators 2 are mounted in a pair of upper 10 and lower 12 parallel pipe plates arranged in a separator vessel 30. The pipe plates 10, 12 form a main separation chamber 44 with a gas inlet chamber 42 on top and a clean gas discharge chamber 46 at bottom. Gas containing particulate material arrives in the inlet chamber 42 of the vessel 30 at the top, flows directly into the many separators 2 in the separation chamber 44, and is discharged downward through the lower discharge chamber 46. Elements 50 are arranged to remove the separated particulate material and flushing gas from the separation chamber 44. <IMAGE> |
