The inclined scanning lines decode a picture of letter when a digit is produced by scanning a picture of a letter. This scanning is done by an electron beam or a photobeam. The inclined scanning can decode a letter quickly because the decode scanning of a letter is done continuously. The scanning region(61) is rotated into the other scanning region(62) to make the inclined scanning with an angle. The letter region(63) is scanned by this scanning region(62).
