In a level indicator for liquids, having a fibre optic body (2) which enters the liquid (13), is stepped on one end side (4), and has a rectangular cross-section and first reflection faces (6) inclined in each case by about 45 DEG in the region of the ledges of these steps, to which first reflection faces second reflection faces (7) perpendicular thereto are assigned, the second reflection faces (7) are located in the other, likewise stepped end side (5) and, like the first reflection faces (6), form at least part of the ledges of the steps of the two end sides (4 and 5). <IMAGE>
