In an apparatus (10) for separating and drying solids from liquids and comprising a closed filter vessel (12, 14) having suspension inlet (42) and filtrate outlet (46), a plate pressure filter arrangement (18) in the filter chamber, a shaking device (38, 40) for detaching from the filter solids deposited thereon, a vortexing chamber (110) below the filter arrangement, a dry gas feed (94) and dry gas discharge (46) and also a flap valve (98) for the elimination of dried solids, in order to achieve the solids drying within a short time with reliable operation it is proposed to install a comminution device (pin mill 72) for comminuting the filter cake fragments, falling from a filter arrangement (18), into suspendable particles, and also a separating device (plate valve 56) for optional separation of the comminution device from the suspension chamber (50). <IMAGE>
