<p>A method of producing intensive and uniform shear fields, esp. in processing low- to high-viscosity smelts, consists of melting the material into a tubular layer and/or continuously mixing it tangentially and axially so that this layer executes an axially pulsating helical movement. The prefd. appts. comprises strips inside a mixing cylinder, which rotate around the central axis without crossing it, thus sweeping the skin as a mixt around the cylinder wall. The strips are interconnected by oblique discs or rings which provide the pulsating effect. Used esp. for bitumens and tars and ethylene homopolymers and/or copolymers.</p> |
