In a therapeutic electrode (1) for application to body parts it is provided for the purpose of achieving a hygienic, safe application meeting the practical requirements that the electrode plate (2) be produced from electrically conducting material and be arranged on a basic body (3) made of a non-electrically conducting material, the basic body (3) comprising a fastening device on the side facing away from the electrode plate (2) for detachable connection to a holding tape or the like, and the electrode plate (2) having a fixing device for a sponge-like layer (7) covering its free surface (5). Such a sponge-like layer (7) is designed, according to the invention, so that it is impregnated or coated with a pharmaceutically active product containing ionic constituents. <IMAGE>
