Bispentabromobenzyl ester of Het acid, which is suitable, optionally together with antimony trioxide, as a flameproofing agent for thermoplastics, is obtained by reacting the aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of HET acid with pentabromobenzyl bromide with addition of a glycol ether, during which water is removed from the reaction mixture by azeotropic distillation.
