PURPOSE:To improve heat resistance, abrasion resistance and mechanical properties by coating the outside exposed parts of copper jackets by build-up welding using Ni or Ni alloy welding rods, thereby forming Ni or Ni alloy layers. CONSTITUTION:This invention relates to copper jackets for steel making such as to tuyeres at the leading end of hot wind blowing devices for blast furnaces, lance nozzles for oxygen blowing in converters, mold plates for continuous casting machines or the like and copper jackets for others such as heaters. For example, Ni or Ni alloy coating layers 9 are formed on the copper surfaces of the tuyeres (made of copper) 7 at the leading end of a hot wind blowing device for blast furnaces successively by build-up welding techniques using Ni or Ni alloy welding rods. The layers 9 are effective simply by applying the same on the leading end and the outside circumferential part at the top surface of the tuyere 7 and it is more preferable to form these over the entire surface including the outside circumferential part on the bottom surface. |
