PURPOSE:To reduce deterioration in optical transmission characteristics based upon repetitive inflection of optical fiber in an optical switch which moves the optical fiber by using magnetic force, by covering the fiber to be moved with a magnetic metal. CONSTITUTION:When the contact of an optical switch 9 is connected to an S1, an electromagnet 11 turns on and a magnetic pole piece 8 atop of a light signal lead-in fiber 1 is attracted to a magnetic pole 6 to allow the tip of the optical fiber 1 to face an optical fiber 2 for leading out a light signal, which is guided through a route (a), (b), (c). When the contact of the switch 9 is changed over to an S2, an electromagnet 12 operates to allow the end surfaces of the optical fibers 1 and 3 to face with each other, and the light signal is guided through a route (a), (d), (e). The optical fiber 1 for optical path switching is covered with a magnetic metallic layer 22 (with 20-80mum thickness) of Fe, Co, Ni, etc., to provide an attracted part 23 with an about 1mm. external diameter, reducing deterioration in optical transmission characteristics based upon inflection of the optical fiber 1. |
