Knobs (16) which can consist of rubber, for example like the lower layer (10), are moulded onto the lower layer (10) of a floor covering with a tread layer (14) or a covering without a textile tread layer. The knobs (16) which are circular in cross-section are raised by about 2 mm from the lower layer (10) of the floor covering. When approximately 14000 knobs are provided per square metre, the floor covering retains its good useability. The knobs arranged in offset rows have a rough and uneven surface and produce a kind of suction effect, in particular in the case of a very smooth support, as a result of which the covering receives favourable lying characteristics with high anti-slip properties. <IMAGE>
