The boiler (1) is made from welded steel plate with a charging door (2) and ash door (3). Within the boiler is a heat exchanger (7) jacket in the form of a hood with an open front adjacent to the charging door. The hood is connected to the horizontal fire grille (10) fabricated from interconnected water tubes (11,13,14). Cool return water from the heating circuit is supplied through the inlet (15) and drawn off at the outlet (35). The hot flue gases pass around the sides and up the back of the hood.
