The vacuum cleaner has a housing part with a dust compartment which can be sealed air-tightly by a hinged lid. This hinge connection consists of at least one catch member which lies in a receptacle in the lid and, in the catch position, is prestressed by a spring against the wall of a catch opening in the housing part. When the lid is pivoted beyond its open position, the wall of the catch opening forms a counter-surface for the catch member, against which counter-surface the catch member can be displaced out of the catch opening counter to its direction of prestress.
