A secondary stabiliser which is intended principally for vinyl chloride polymers and comprises a product of the reaction of at least one dibasic or polybasic organic acid or an anhydride thereof, and at least one polyhydric alcohol. The molar ratio between the polyhydric alcohol and the acid or anhydride thereof in the reaction product is from 1.5 to 10:1, preferably from 1.5 to 5:1.
