PURPOSE:To increase the utilization rate of a storage battery by increasing the amount of electrolyte by reducing the space between the liquid level of the electrolyte and the back surface of the lid, and increasing the active surface area of the plate by reducing the pressure of gas contained in the battery. CONSTITUTION:For the purpose of reducing the pressure of gas contained in a storage battery 1, gas contained in cells in sucked through catalyst plugs 2 into a decompressor 3 by use of a hose 4. In addition, the catalyst plugs 2 and a regulator 5 are provided between the battery 1 and the decompressor 3 so as to prevent any scattering of sulfuric acid to the utmost. By the means mentioned above, the amount of gas remaining in the battery 1 can be decreased. As a result, the vertical shift of the liquid level of the electrolyte of the battery which is caused by the remaining gas can be suppressed, the space between the back surface of the lid and the liquid level of the electrolyte can be narrowed, and the amount of the electrolyte can be increased. Besides, since gas remaining between the separator and the positive or negative plate can be removed, the reactive surface area of the plate is increased, and the utilization rate of the battery 1 is increased. |
