Process for areal bonding of workpieces by brazing, especially of the layers of the sandwich bottom of stainless steel saucepans. A flux in the form of a non-hygroscopic powder is premixed with a pulverulent or granular brazing material and this mixture is sifted onto one of the bonding faces of the workpieces to be bonded. Then the bonding face of the second workpiece is placed onto the sifted-on layer, and the workpieces are together heated to a temperature at which the brazing material/flux mixture becomes molten. Upon subsequent cooling, an areal, adhesive bond is obtained. The appliance for carrying out the process has a sieve (24) which is charged with the brazing material/flux mixture (32) and is held above a workpiece seating face (14). By means of an impact or oscillation device, which can be made to act on the rim (28) of the sieve (24), a preset amount of the brazing material/flux mixture (32) can be sifted onto the bonding face of a workpiece (16) arranged below the sieve (24) on the workpiece seating face (14). <IMAGE>
