A commutator (3) is proposed for electrical machines, especially for starter motors of internal-combustion engines, which commutator (3) conforms with the particularly stringent requirements, for rugged operation in motor vehicles, for the strength of the mechanical and electrical connection between the commutator segment (2) and the connecting tab (12). The segments (2) each have a V-shaped slot (6) in their end (5) on the armature side, in which slot (6) the V-shaped base (15) of the connecting tab (12) (which has parallel limbs) is inserted. The V-shaped construction of the slot (6) and of the base (15) of the connecting tab (12) results in a large-area contact between the connecting tab (12) and the segment (2), with high mechanical strength and a good electrically conductive connection between these two parts (2 and 12). <IMAGE>
