PURPOSE:To contain an image on a photoreceptor in transfer paper by selectively specifying desired positions in a desired-width copying part, orthogonal to the moving direction of an original scanning system, in the moving direction, and adjusting mutual position relation so that the image part on the photoreceptor is contained in the transfer paper of prescribed selected size. CONSTITUTION:Variable magnification is specified by the selection of a variable modification specifying key on a keyboard or by sliding a variable magnification specifying knob laterally. For the specification of a copying part with prescribed width in an original, for example, a book or sheet like original O is mounted on a scale at the lower part of contact glass 7 and specification on the scale from 6 to 18 is possible.
