In order to be able to pick up (for example diagnostic) information items to be evaluated automatically in devices (2) having a luminescent display device (4), which is used as operator information in normal operation, an optical pickup (9) is provided which has one or more photoelectric elements (11) and is attached in front of the luminescent display device (4) of the device (2).
