The known merchandise shelves, on which merchandise is displayed for sale in shops, have only a few possibilities of variation. However, a versatile, different range of merchandise is to be displayed. For this purpose, refined possibilities of use must be provided. The subject-matter of the invention is a display device in which the merchandise shelves are suspended by suspension means at their ends in perforated stands or in a rear wall of shelf units, a support rail being arranged at a slight distance from the shelf stands, which support rail can be suspended with suspension hooks in holes in the shelf stands, and the suspension hooks of the merchandise shelves being designed in such a way that they can be suspended directly in slots in the transverse rail and in holes in the shelf stands, and brackets with rows of slots or holes placed against one another being arranged at the ends of the merchandise shelves, into which rows of slots or holes the suspension hooks can be hooked so that the merchandise shelves can be inserted obliquely into the slots in the support rails. Merchandise stands or merchandise shelves of the most varied constructional design can thus be hung up adjacently. In particular, the intention is for merchandise shelves with different suspensions to be able to be hung up adjacently, irrespective of the axial dimension of the shelf stands. In this case, it is possible with an axial dimension of 62.5 cm to suspend the merchandise shelves with ordinary known suspension hooks and, at the same time, the same shelves can be used with a double axial dimension of 125 cm with the hanging or suspension construction. <IMAGE>
