Pacemaker with first switching means which generate a first output signal as response to signals derived from the heart, second switching means which contain timer means generating a second output signal after a predeterminable first period, signal processing means located downstream from the switching means and to which the first and second output signals are fed and which drive a pulse generating circuit for the output of stimulation pulses, with third switching means which respond both to the first and to the second switching means in order to switch the downstream signal processing means for a second period from a waiting state without energy consumption or with little energy consumption into an operational state for processing of signals, while the signal processing means pre-set the timer means of the second switching means for output of the second output signal at a time at which a stimulation pulse is to be supplied and/or drive the pulse generating circuit for the immediate output of a stimulation pulse.
