PURPOSE:To prepare the titled substance by contacting phenoxybenzyl alcohol with an aqueous solution of a hypohalous acid salt in a water-insoluble organic solvent in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst, separating the organic phase, and extracting and washing the organic phase with a basic aqueous solution. CONSTITUTION:Phenoxybenzyl alcohol is dissolved in a water-insoluble organic solvent, and made to react with a hypohalous acid salt in a binary phase system in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst (e.g. an orgaic quaternary ammonium salt, a macrocyclic polyether, etc.) at -5-+60 deg.C for 10min-8hr. After the completion of the reaction, the organic phase is separated, and extracted and washed with a basic aqueous solution (e.g. 5-20% aqueous solution of NaOH) to obtain the titled substance from the organic phase. EFFECT:The reaction completes in a short time under mild conditions, and the byproducts can be extracted and removed only by using phenoxybenzoic acid. USE:Raw material of synthetic pyrethroid pesticides. |
