PURPOSE:To enable electrolysis to be carried out at a low voltage, by using an electrode wherein an active material is positioned on the front surface layer section of a porous body having continuous spaces, and an electric current feeder is connected to the back surface of the body. CONSTITUTION:The active material layer 7 is positioned at least on the surface layer section of the porous body 2 having continuous spaces, and the electric current feeder 3 is connected with the back surface thereof. The porous body 2 may include a porous lining layer 8 and a core 9. The void volume of the porous body 2 is 50-95%, preferably 60-90%, and the material for the porous body 2 is iron, nickel and the like for a cathode and titanium, zirconium and the like for an anode. The thickness of the active material layer 7 on the surface of the porous body 2 is on the order of 100-3,000mu, and the material for the active material layer 7 is iron, nickel and the like for the cathode while the material for the active material layer 7 is lutenium, palladium and the like. Electrolysis will be stable wherein the thus produced electrodes are positioned in an electrolytic cell 1 with a cation exchange membrane interposed therebetween. |
