PURPOSE:To realize noiseless slow speed with the intermittent travelling of a tape, by setting the duration of the brake pulse which is used in the intermittent travel mode in accordance with the speed of a capstan motor at a moment of the pulse starting and thus avoiding the reversing of the capstan motor. CONSTITUTION:An FF12 is set with the rise of a waveform obtained by dividing the head switch signal given from a tag head through a 1/N divider 4, and a switch 10 is closed to turn a capstan motor 9 to forward a tape. At the same time, the CFG (the signal of the frequency proportional to the revolving speed of the motor) is obtained through a CFG head 17 with the frequency proportional to the revolving speed of the motor 9. This CFG signal receives the sample holding by a sample holding circuit 20 via an amplifier 18 and a frequency-voltage converter 19. The voltage received the sample holding is applied to a mono-multi 5 via an amplifier 21 to control the working time of the mono- multi 5. Then the output of a control head 6 is applied to the mono-multi 5, and the output pulse duration of the mono-multi 5 is used for the brake pulse to stop the forwarding of the tape.
