In a method for reducing the heat exchange and momentum and mass transfer immediately adjacent to the walls of fluidised-bed reactors the flow resistance for the fluid (fluidising medium) passed through the fluidised bed is increased, adjacent to the wall, to the extent that the fluidised bed in this zone is no longer turbulent; this purpose is served by fittings which protrude from the inner walls of the reactor and project like ribs from the wall into the reaction chamber or extend parallel to the reactor wall, forming gaps therewith. The fittings may be prefabricated segments, and the spacings of the annular fittings in the flow direction of the fluid should at most be approximately half as large as the rib height transverse thereto.
