Plastics identity card with an internal integrated circuit

The identity or access control card is mfd. on a plastics base and has an integrated circuit installed between the two surfaces of the card. The external contacts are fitted to a separate support inside the card, and bridging connections are provided inside the card. The integrated circuit substrate (3) is held in position by a circular fixing ring (5) manufactured from a thin sheet of a synthetic plastics material having suitable perforations for access of the electrical connections. The fixing ring is embedded in the plastic of the card, while space is provided round the integrated circuit to permit the card to be bent without bending the brittle silicon based integrated circuit, thus enhancing the reliability of the card.
