An eight speed power train of an automatic transmission for a vehicle is provided to obtain high power transmission efficiency and high fuel efficiency by utilizing effectively engine power. A first transmission unit(T1) includes a first and second planetary gear sets(PG1,PG2) as single planetary gear sets, an input path for receiving directly power from an input shaft, and an intermediate output path for reducing and outputting the power. A second transmission unit(T2) includes a third and fourth planetary gear sets(PG3,PG4) as single planetary gear sets, a first intermediate input path for receiving directly the power through the intermediate output path of the first transmission unit, a second intermediate input path for receiving the variable power from the input shaft, and a final output path for shifting and outputting the power received through the second intermediate input path. A plurality of frictional elements are arranged between operational elements or between the operational element and a transmission housing in order to operate selectively the operational element as an input element or a fixing element.
