A coated paper and a coating compound for the paper exhibit, it being the case that a high paper quality and excellent ease of application to a base paper. The coating compound contains pigments and one or more adhesives, and has a high solids concentration; (a) the pigments contain kaolin in a quantity of 10-80 % by weight of the whole pigment fraction and natural milled calcium carbonate in a quantity of 20-90 % by weight of the whole pigment fraction, the kaolin having a fraction of over 50 % by weight of particles under 1 mu m, and the natural milled calcium carbonate having a fraction of 70-100 % by weight of particles under 2 mu m and a fraction of 55-95 % by weight of particles under 1 mu m, (b) the one or more adhesives include a copolymer emulsion in a quantity of 3-20 % by weight with respect to the solid compound, of the whole pigment fraction, the copolymer emulsion being obtained by emulsion polymerisation of 3-40 parts by weight of vinyl cyanide monomers and 60-97 parts by weight of other monomers, and (c) the solids concentration amounts to 65-80 % by weight. e |
