PURPOSE:To reduce crop losses and to improve rolling performance by placing caliber rolls and press dies adjacently, making these movable in the roll axial direction in one body, and making these movable in the screw-down directions of the material as well. CONSTITUTION:A vertical roll group of a vertical roll 2, an upper roll chock 4, a caliber part 3, a press die 8, and a lower roll chock 7 is provided elevatably with an elevator 10. First, the leading end of a slab 1 is introduced into the die 8, and the corner parts of the slab are pressed by pushing an inner stand 9 with liquid pressure cylinders 11. Similarly, the other end part of the slab 1 is formed. Then, the slab 1 is moved backward, after which the vertical roll group is moved downward by the elevator 10, and the pressed slab 1 is again returned and is brought into abutment on the caliber part 3 of the vertical roll 2, thence the slab 1 is again broadside screwed down and rolled by the operation of the cylinders 11. Thereby, the function of a U press is provided to the V mill. |
