PURPOSE:To provide a printer which can keep a monolithical relation between a type and a type code memory as it is, by a method wherein a type and a type code are united monolithically by a type set substance, and a type code is stored in a type code memory at a time when the type set substance is replaced. CONSTITUTION:About 300 types are arranged in a longitudinal direction on a type set substance 1 formed in the shape of an endless belt, and a type code pulse CCP, representing a type code above the right end, is positioned between type position pulses CP. A home pulse HP is detected by a magnetic sensor 16, and the CP and the CCP by a magnetic sensor 17 to send them to a printing control circuit via wave form shaping circuits 18 and 19. When the type set substance is replaced, the type code is detected and a reading takes place by means of an address previously determined. This permits monolithical reading of a type code memory against the type on the type set substance. |
