The bicycle wheel rim, partic. in extruded aluminium, has an outwardly open U-shaped cross-section. The lateral sides of the rim flanges are light-reflective. These sides may have a reflective coating, e.g. consisting of plastic adhering to these sides. They may be made reflective by surface treatment such as anodising. Each side may have an annular recess containing light-reflective material which does not project outside the outer surface of that side.
