The invention relates to abrasive material on a flexible underlay, such as for example abrasive papers or cloths, which are produced by known processes but the top binder coating of which contains microglass beads of 1-500 mu (microns), preferably 1-150 mu , the abrasive grains bonded on the flexible substrate by the base binder being additionally secured in the top binder by the microglass beads. In particular, the abrasive grains are protected by the microglass beads contained in the top binder from smearing with abrasive dust until the microglass beads in the top binder break out during the abrading operation. This is facilitated under the loading applied during abrasion by the abrasive grains not being completely shielded by microglass beads. Instead, the tips of the abrasive grains are freed already during initial abrading and lower-lying grain tips of the abrasive material are successively freed only later during abrading.
