The invention relates to a gripping or clamping tool with two lever handles which can be pivoted relative to one another and are each provided with a gripper jaw. One lever handle is formed in one piece with the gripper jaw allocated to it, while the other gripper jaw is arranged on the other lever handle in such a way that it can be displaced, tilted or locked. To open the gripper head, the one gripper jaw is therefore to be displaced accordingly, whereas to clamp a workpiece only the one lever handle is to be pivoted slightly, as a result of which the displaceable gripper jaw is secured to the other lever handle, for example by tilting, and forms an abutment. This gripping or clamping tool permits a large gripping capacity, a symmetrical engagement of the gripper jaws on the periphery of a pipe or suchlike workpiece, and continuously adjustable adaptation, which is easy to carry out, of the width of the gripper head to the corresponding outside dimensions of a workpiece. <IMAGE>
