The invention relates to a method for forming sheets, in particular for the hydromechanical deep drawing of sheet metal, the blank being held by a hydraulic blank holder. It is the object of the invention to provide a possibility for making the blank holder force adjustable in accordance with the drawing conditions and to control it in order in this way to optimise the drawing conditions. The invention achieves this object by the fact that the counterpressure acting on the blank holder is measured continuously by tensometry during the entire drawing cycle, the measured values from the measurement are transmitted to the processing and command device and, from here, the blank holder force is changed to appropriate values.
