Low-temperature insulation which expands elastically is composed of panels (1), having side surfaces which are arranged in pairs parallel to one another, and of strips (2, 3) which deform elastically in only one direction, consist of an insulating material and are adhesively bonded to one another and to the panels on mutually touching surfaces. Between two neighbouring side surfaces of adjacent panels (1) there are provided at least two elastic strips (2, 3), the elastic deformation directions of which run approximately perpendicularly to one another in the plane of the panels (1).
