This cable which can preferably be used for operations in rugged mechanical operation and for flexible deflection with very small bending radii, as a result of the special cable construction and the specific material selection. In the event of compression, torsion and bending stresses, the wire assembly which is critical to the function is protected by a cushioning effect. At the same time, the wires in the compressible intermediate layer can deflect mechanical stresses in a limited manner at right angles to the cable axis without this leading directly to wire fractures as in the case of rigid outer sheaths. The cable construction is illustrated in Fig. 1 and shows that all the winding spaces (1) of the stranded composite element (2) (formed by the wires) and the intermediate layer (3) are filled with soft, preferably foamed plastic material, and the outer contour of this layer is sheathed with a wear-resistant jacket (4). <IMAGE>
