The telecommunications cable uses cylindrical section insulated former (1) to carry symmetric pairs of electric conductors and optical fibres in grooves (5,6) along the surface of the former. A reinforcing wire (9) runs down the centre of the former to provide structural strength to the cable. The grooves carrying the conductors are of a concave helical section or may alternatively be of a curvilinear 'V' section. Smaller grooves (6) are provided for small section cable (7). Conductors are laid in the grooves in symmetric pairs. The groove pairs may be used for optical fibres, for service wires, for locating wires, or for micro-coaxial cable.
