PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display element of low production costs and good workability by making combination use of polarizing plates consisting of polarizers and thermosetting resin supporting plates sandwiching these polarizers as transparent substrates. CONSTITUTION:The circumferential edge parts of two sheets of opposing polarizing plates 1, 2 are sealed by means by sealing materials 3, and a liquid crystal 4 injected through a sealing port in the inside is packed therein. The plates 1, 2 serve also as substrates for a liquid crystal cell, and transparent electrode patterns are formed at the interface thereof with the liquid crystal 4 and are subjected to an orientation treatment. These plates 1, 2 consist respectively of polarizers 1a, 2a, and supports 1b, 2b sandwitching these from both sides. The substrates 1b, 2b are both constituted of thermosetting resins having light transmittance. Epoxy resins, furan resins, thermosetting polyester resins, etc. are enumerated as the thermosetting resins used, and these are used by forming these into unoriented films. |
