Five variants of a DC pulse transformer for charging a battery from an AC voltage power supply are proposed, it being possible for the peak value of the AC power supply voltage to be less than or greater than the voltage of the battery to be charged. The individual DC pulse transformer variants differ as a result of different combinations and series connections of known step-up controllers and step-down controllers. In the case of a basic variant, a first diode (D1) is arranged between a first input terminal (E1) and a first output terminal (A1). A capacitor (C1, C2) is in each case provided between the first and second input terminals (E1, E2) and between the first and second output terminals (A1, A2). The series circuit consisting of a power transistor (T2) (having a high switching frequency) and an inductor coil (L1/2) is connected between the second input terminal (E2) and the second output terminal (A2). The first input terminal (E1) and the second output terminal (A2) are connected to one another via a thyristor (Th1). A second diode (D2) is connected to the junction point between the transistor (T2) and the inductor coil (L1/2) and its other side is connected to the first output terminal (A1). <IMAGE>
